Folding up his laundry and placing it in his dresser drawer, the presence of spring was vibrant and ready. The smell of fresh linen drifting throughout the room as a breeze from the outside wafts in. Taking a few moments break and walking towards the window, he glances out into the small crowd of people congregating along the street.

He looks down from his second story bedroom window at the young girl riding her bicycle outside with her friends. Her long blonde hair shining radiantly in the sunlight, as her laughter fills the city street below. Closing his eyes and taking a deep breath, he can recall the precise location of her freckles and how her green eyes shimmered when she laughed. The touch of her soft skin against his had felt as palpable as the taste of her bubble gum flavored kisses. His chest welling up with emotion while he recounts the years of history that lies between them.

As he watches her from his tower, he wishes…
That she took notice of all things he wanted to say but could not,
How he had longed for her to fill the void that ached inside of him,
And that no matter how far apart they drifted…she still felt like home.

Hearts Message:
“I burned a bridge I can’t repair, in a heart that is no longer mine to hold. I am sorry for what I did.

Turning her head to the left, she sees her friend Stacey emanating an iconic hip-hop artist impression. Laughing at the scene beside her, she wonders what onlookers driving by must see while they ride their bikes together. Half a mile away, on the right side of the road, she sees a yellow two-story house. It is at the corner of Brice Street and McMillian, right past where they are headed.

Closing the space between them, she realizes it is the closest she’s been around him or his property since they separated. She can feel the anxiousness and alertness begin to stir inside her stomach as the second story window appeared empty. Cooling herself down as she comes to a stop, she recounts the many nights they had spent together with the windows open while slow dancing to the tune of old music. He had once enamored her with his sense of presence and passion for life. How loving him deeply had left more than a few scars as reminders. In the corner of her eyes, tears appeared as she pushed away the many reasons of why they were no longer together.

As she pedals forward with her friend, she wishes…
That he had been honest about the secrets he had kept from her,
How she had prayed for a future where he would have been in it,
And that someday he would find happiness within himself.

Hearts Message:
We all have things to learn about life & love. I needed you to teach me this; to show me how to love myself.”
